dogs Group

Sporting

Breeds developed to work with hunters—locating, flushing, and retrieving game.

Why this group exists

Sporting breeds were shaped for fieldwork with people: responsive, cooperative, and steady in busy outdoor settings. Some were bred to find and point, others to flush birds from cover, and many to retrieve gently and reliably. The common thread is that they were built to work with a person, not just alongside them.
